Making A Long-Distance Move? What To Bring With You In Your Car

by Erin Mitchell

When you are making a long-distance move that requires driving for multiple days to reach your destination, you don't want to put everything into the moving truck. At the same time, you don't want your vehicle to feel too crowded, either. That is why you need to carefully choose what items to bring in your vehicle.

Change of Clothing

If it is going to take you more than a day to get to your destination, you need to bring some extra clothing with you in your vehicle. Don't overdo it; pack only the essentials for a couple of days. You'll want to pack underwear, bottoms, shirts, and socks for each day you plan on traveling. Be sure to also pack some pajamas.

Toiletry & Grooming Items

In addition to a change of clothing, you should bring along some basic toiletry items. Pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, shaving supplies, and any other essential toiletry items.

You don't need to bring all of your toiletries with you; you can use the soap and lotions at the hotels along the way. Just bring the extra items that hotels don't usually carry.

Medication

If you have any medication that you take on a daily basis, make sure you pack it with you. Do not pack up your medications and send them with the moving truck. Carry all of your medication in your vehicle.

You should also fill any prescriptions you have before you leave on your cross-country drive. Talk to your doctor and see if you can get your prescriptions filled early to ensure you have access to necessary medications when you reach your new home.

Important Documentation

Don't pack important documentation you will need to get your life started when you reach your destination.

Examples of important documentation you will want to bring with you include the following:

  • Driver's license or identification card
  • Medical records
  • Prescriptions
  • School records
  • Moving contract
  • Apartment lease
  • House title

If you have any professional licenses or certifications you need for your new job, bring those with you as well. You may also want to bring along any financial documents, such as loan papers, bank account statements, and tax information.

Bring along any important documents you may need during the moving process or soon after. That way you won't have to dig through boxes to get to the right documents when you reach your new home.

Small Electronics

Bring along any small electronics you own, from your smartphone to your tablet or laptop. Your electronic items can be really useful to have on you.

If you have children, tablets and smartphones can provide entertainment for your kids on the long drive via games, movies, and music. Tablets and smartphones can also offer entertainment for any adult who isn't behind the wheel during the trip.

Having easy access to your tablet and laptop can also make it easier to get settled into your home, as you can use both of these devices to access important information.

Special Items

Finally, bring along any special items that will make the trip go smoother and make moving into your home easier.

For example, if you can't sleep well without your pillow, bring it along. If anyone plans on napping during the drive, bring along a few blankets. You may also want to bring a small cooler to keep snacks cool during the drive.

Don't go overboard with special items; only pack the items that will make the trip more comfortable for everyone who will be in the vehicle with you. You can contact your local long-distance moving companies for more moving tips.

About Me

A New Business Venture

For the past several years, my friend worked as a waitress at a local restaurant. Although she enjoyed her job, she started to want to do something different with her life. After some research, she decided to start a new business. She began purchasing storage units. After buying them, she inspects the inventory in them. She then sells the inventory on the internet. So far, she’s enjoying her new career as an entrepreneur. She’s always amazed at the type of items she finds in the storage units she buys. On this blog, you will discover how to start a new business venture by selling inventory found in purchased storage units.
