What to Look for in a Storage Facility: Tips for You

by Erin Mitchell

When you are looking for a place outside of your house or apartment to store some of your possessions, whether it is a collection that takes up too much space or extra furniture that you want to keep but have no space for, there are many different factors that you can and should consider when selecting your ideal storage facility. To be sure that you find the best possible location for the storage of your possessions, get to know some of these important factors to consider. Then you will be able to rent your ideal storage unit as soon as possible.

Facility and Office Cleanliness

There are many different storage facilities available for rent all over the country. One of the biggest factors that you should consider when selecting your storage unit is whether both the facility and the rental office are clean. However, you do not just want them to be clean. You want them to be as impeccably clean as possible.

The cleanliness of the office and the hallways as well as the outdoor areas surrounding the various storage units says a great deal about the care that the rental company takes with its property and therefore with your property as well. If they care enough to keep the facility clean, you can be sure that the facility is well-maintained and that any cleanliness or repair issues will be taken care of quickly and efficiently so that your possessions are as protected as possible.

Storage-Facility Security

Security can and should also be a major priority when you are selecting your storage facility. While most storage units require you to purchase and provide your own lock to your individual unit, there are other security measures that you should look for in a facility.

Find out whether the storage facility has security cameras in place to monitor the property. If so, how closely are those feeds monitored? Is there a staff person there to monitor the cameras at all times? If not, what are the hours maintained by staff members? You also want to look for additional storage-facility security measures. These can include secure gates with key-code access or fingerprint or other biometric scans for access. Essentially, the more comprehensive and sophisticated the security systems, the more likely it will be that your possessions will be safe while in storage.

With these key factors in mind, you can begin to narrow down your storage-facility choices and find the facility that is best for you and your needs. Check out facilities such as Colfax West Self Storage to get started.
