3 Things To Do Before Moving Your Dog To A New Country

by Erin Mitchell

If you and your family are packing up and preparing to move to another country, you might be planning on bringing your four-legged family member with you. If so, there are a few steps that you should take care of to get your dog ready for the big move. These are a few things that you should do to ensure that Fido is ready for your family's big international relocation.

1. Contact the Government for the Country You'll Be Moving To

Every country is different in how international pet moves are handled. To ensure that you handle things properly for the country that you are moving to, you will need to contact that country's government -- such as the embassy -- to inquire about which steps to take before making your move. You might be required to fill out certain paperwork or prepare for your dog to be quarantined in the new country for a certain length of time.

2. Schedule an Appointment with Your Vet

If you haven't taken your dog to the vet yet in preparation for your move, you will need to schedule an appointment. This is important for a few reasons -- first of all, you will want to ensure that your dog is healthy enough to be moved to another country. You'll also need to ensure that it is up-to-date on all essential vaccinations, especially rabies. You can also ask your doctor to provide you with a certificate that shows that your dog is in good health, which might be required by the local government in the country that you and your family are relocated to.

3. Choose the Right Method of Transportation

Another thing to consider is how your pet will get to your family's new home. If you will be flying, you may want to contact the airline to inquire about its policies regarding pets, and you'll also need to purchase an airline-approved pet carrier that will keep your four-legged family member comfortable and safe during the journey. You can also consider working with a pet transportation service, which can be used to get your pet to your family's new home.

As you can see, if you are going to be taking your dog with you and your family on your upcoming move, there are a few steps that you will need to take first. These are just three things that you'll want to do before moving your dog to a new country. Contact a business, such as Hollander Storage & Moving, for more information.

So far, she’s enjoying her new career as an entrepreneur. She’s always amazed at the type of items she finds in the storage units she buys. On this blog, you will discover how to start a new business venture by selling inventory found in purchased storage units.
